Sopranos TV Show On DVD

The Sopranos was an HBO series that ran for a few years in the late 90s and earlier part of this century and featured the antics of Tony Soprano, a mob boss, and his family. You can get the Sopranos TV show on DVD and watch the entire series as it ended a few years ago with a, as they would say, "bada bing."

The Sopranos was THE Sunday night show to watch on HBO. Tony Soprano had two children and a wife and a slew of mistresses. He was in charge of a small time criminal empire in North New Jersey and was always running into problems with his mob guys. As a result, he had to see a psychiatrist after he had somewhat of a breakdown. The Sopranos TV show was the inspiration for the movie "Analyze This" starring Robert DeNiro and Billy Crystal, which was a comedy. The Sopranos, despite having some lighter moments, was not a comedy, although there were some funny moments.

In the earlier episodes, Tony Soprano tried to juggle his mob empire with being a husband and father of two teenagers. His wife was constantly seeking advice from the parish Priest who knew about Tony's nefarious company and reputation. Tony was often seen muscling other mobsters, trying to keep control of his empire while trying to watch his kids' soccer games. It was not beneath him to recover a stolen car for a teacher who was giving one of his kids a bad grade in order to help the kid get a better grade.

In between his activities, Tony Soprano would have to see a psychiatrist, played by Lorraine Bracco. As seasons passed, each with a cliffhanger ending, the relationship between Tony and his doctor began to change. Tony continued to be a womanizer and his wife continued to pray for him to change. You can catch the entire series of the Sopranos TV show on DVD and watch it from beginning to end to see how the characters change or get rubbed out throughout the series.

The Sopranos was criticized as taking a light hearted look at the mob, although killings and illegal activities were never underplayed, but seemed to be part of business. It was also denounced by many Italian Americans who were offended at the perpetual stereotype of mobsters being Italian, but this was dismissed as most of the cast was comprised of Italian American actors. In short, it was a very innovative show.

When you watch the Sopranos TV Show on DVD, make sure the kids are out of the room. The language is strong and there is nudity and violence in some of the episodes. It is definitely an adult oriented television show. But if you are looking for something truly innovative to watch on DVD, and want to see the entire series from beginning to end, the Sopranos TV show on DVD is a great choice.
